Serenity is sci-fi with a heart (and soul)

No spoilers, promise.

I checked off one of my 43things by seeing Serenity on release day.

I have been looking forward to this film for over a year, and I can say I loved every minute of it. Real character development, brilliant and witty dialog, compelling narrative, and great FX. I can't wait to see it again. In the meantime, I'll be watching the Firefly DVDs all over again.

My greatest hope is that the movie is successful enough that NBC reinstates the series (NBC Universal is the film studio). It's currently number 2 for box office revenues and getting great reviews. Ebert and Roeper gave it 2 thumbs up and you can tell they really enjoyed it, so maybe mainstream America will take notice. They went so far as to compare its spirit to that of the original Star Wars. Eat your heart out, Mr. Lucas.
